Choreographer with Missouri roots wins Tony

WEBSTER GROVES, Mo. (AP) — An alumnus of Webster University in suburban St. Louis is celebrating his second Tony Award.

Jerry Mitchell won for best choreography Sunday night for his work on the musical "Kinky Boots." The musical won six Tonys, including best musical.

Mitchell also was nominated for best direction of a musical. He previously won for best choreography in 2005 for his work in "La Cage Aux Folles."

Mitchell attended Webster Groves, Mo.-based Webster University Conservatory in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in 2005.
