TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will convene a summit on the future of Atlantic City.

Political, business and labor leaders will gather on Sept. 8 to discuss the city's changing landscape as the casino industry suffers from competition from neighboring states.

Christie says there are signs of economic progress outside of gaming.

The governor's announcement on Wednesday came as officials announced Atlantic City's 11 casinos took in 11 percent less from gamblers in July than they did a year ago.

The numbers were released one day after the city's newest casino, Revel, announced it will shut down after just over two years of operation.

Atlantic City started the year with 12 casinos, but will have eight remaining before fall.
