WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos will come to Washington and meet with President Barack Obama later this year.

Santos will be at the White House on Dec. 3. White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama will express his support for Santos' efforts to pursue peace and discuss ways to work together on citizen security. He says Obama and Santos will also discuss human rights, trade and economic cooperation.

Peace talks with leftist FARC rebels to end a nearly half-century-old conflict began in Cuba a year ago. But talks have proceeded more slowly than Santos desired.

Santos is up for re-election in May, although he has not officially declared his candidacy.
