Rep. Ed Perlmutter, D-Colo., told constituents that the recent shooting in Aurora, Colo., demonstrates the importance of Obamacare because the victims will receive insurance.
“The Affordable Care Act is in place,” Perlmutter said during a recent teletownhall, as seen in the Revealing Politics video. “It will stop the discrimination against people with prior illnesses or injuries, or, say, some of the folks who were shot in the theater — they would be uninsurable now that they’ve had that wound; but, under the Affordable Care Act, they can’t be discriminated against, starting in 2014.”
In 1986, Congress passed the Emergency Treatment and Labor Act requiring that patients taken to the emergency room receive treatment without regard to their ability to pay.
