PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Network connectivity provider Lightyear Network Solutions has consolidated some of its operations in Kentucky resulting in the elimination of 15 jobs.
Company officials said the layoffs are permanent and spring from what Lightyear called challenging business conditions, particularly in Appalachia. The positions were cut from across the company, which has offices in Louisville, Lexington and Pikeville.
Employee Justin Prater told WYMT-TV that company officials called workers in one at a time on Monday morning, told them their positions had been eliminated and sent them home.
CEO Stephen M. Lochmueller said the consolidation would allow the company to cut costs without sacrificing the quality of services.
