Dinesh D'Souza, a prominent conservative author and filmmaker, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in New York on charges he arranged excessive campaign contributions to a U.S. Senate candidate.
The Senate candidate was not named in the indictment, but Reuters reported that D'Souza campaigned in 2012 on behalf of Republican Wendy Long, a lawyer and fellow Dartmouth graduate who was running against Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.
D'Souza was charged with making illegal contributions in the names of others and causing false statements to be made.
D'Souza has been well-known in conservative circles for nearly 30 years. His most recent work was the film "2016: Obama's America."
