Construction projects planned at Chennault


LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — A Chennault International Airport Authority oversight committee has approved construction of several facilities with a total value of $7.5 million.

The committee authorized the airport's executive director to prepare specifications for construction of a 10,000-square-foot air cargo building and a 15,000-square-foot corporate hangar and ground support facility.

The American Press reports ( ) the air cargo facility will cost $4.2 million. About 25 percent of the cost will be paid for by Chennault, and the rest will be funded by the state through the capital outlay process.

The ground support equipment facility will be used for maintenance of tenant Million Air's fuel trucks and equipment for handling aircraft. Larger corporate aircraft will fit in the hangar, which will have a 24-foot door height. Smaller aircraft also will use the hangar.
