NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers awarded a $2.2 million contract to Louisiana-based Phylway Constructors LLC to build seepage cutoff works along the Lake Pontchartrain levee from Franklin Avenue to the Seabrook Floodgate Complex.

Construction is expected to be complete by late summer 2013.

The Army Corps said 20-foot long sheet piles will be driven along the levee Franklin Avenue to the vehicle floodgate near the former site of Camp Leroy Johnson. A clay cap will then be placed over the sheet pile as a seepage preventative.
