A convicted killer escaped from a prison work detail in Prince George's County on Monday, and law enforcement officials are asking the public to help locate him.

Conrad Thames, 27, walked away from a road crew on Route 197 and Muirkirk Road near Laurel at about 11 a.m., said Erin Julius, spokesperson for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correction Services.

Julius said she could not say whether the inmate was armed.

Thames, of Baltimore, was serving a 10-year sentence for a 2003 conviction on manslaughter and handgun charges out of Baltimore, according to court documents.

He was last seen wearing a fluorescent road crew white and a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Thames, 27, is described as a 5-foot-9, 162-pound black man with black hair and brown eyes. Anyone who spots Thames is asked to call 911.
