Coroner: Chicago juvenile likely electrocuted

MATTESON, Ill. (AP) — The Will County coroner says a Chicago juvenile has been found dead on top of a Metra train in the suburbs.

The coroner's office said Monday that the juvenile was pronounced dead Sunday evening. The juvenile was found on top of an unoccupied Metra train in the southern suburb of Matteson. The victim wasn't immediately identified.

Metra spokesman Michael Gillis says "a couple of juveniles" went into a rail yard and one was electrocuted after jumping on top of a parked electric train. The coroner's office says the juvenile "may have experienced electrocution" and has scheduled an autopsy for Monday.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that an outbound Metra Electric District train was canceled Sunday night after the death.

Metra police are investigating.
