VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — In a story Jan. 27 about cargo at the Port of Vicksburg, The Associated Press referred to the wrong port in the short and long headlines of the story. The headlines should have referred to the Port of Vicksburg, not the Port of Gulfport.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Tonnage down in '13 at Port of Vicksburg as revenue topped $2M

VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) — Port of Vicksburg officials say 164,369 tons were unloaded last year, down more than half from the 332,453 tons of cargo handled in 2012.

Revenue from cargo to the Warren County Port Commission topped the $2 million mark for the second straight year, at $2.04 million. In 2012, the company paid the commission $2.51 million.

Officials expect no huge drop-offs in the next 12 months.

The Vicksburg Post reports (http://bit.ly/1n6xPLd) that the data was supplied by Kinder Morgan, the port's contract operator.

A majority of the material was steel and various agricultural products, according to detailed monthly reports.

"In terms of revenue, it was a pretty solid year," said Wayne Mansfield, executive director of the commission.

Work associated with a deal with DuPont to transfer steel and raw materials to the Severstal steel plant near Tupelo slowed down last year but made up the bulk of the year-end total, said Dominic Silvani, a local foreman at the port.

"Quite a bit was DuPont," Silvani told port commissioners this past week.

He said December's 17,885 tons of steel coil and slag came despite the overhead crane being out of service for a week.

Tonnage and revenue in 2012 rebounded to the highest marks in five years, thanks in part from renewed activity after the Mississippi River Flood of 2011.

Officials said activity at the port will slow when $1.3 million of work begins to repave flood-damaged parts of the concrete apron of the port's T-dock support platform.
