Few quarterbacks are better at holding a defense hostage with a ball fake than Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III. Part of that is his threat as a runner, of course. But in the zone read schemes Washington employs, the quarterback quickly has to analyze the defenders, make a choice and use those fakes to leave doubt in opponents' minds.
"If this quarterback thing doesn't work out, Robert Griffin III can go play for the Globetrotters. He is a ball handler extraordinaire," NBC football analyst Cris Collinsworth said during the Redskins' win over the Cowboys on Sunday night.
You know who else thinks so? The Harlem Globetrotters. The famed barnstorming basketball team heard Collinsworth and immediately reached out to Griffin via social media.
"Hey @RGIII we're in DC March 2," came the reply from the team's official Twitter account.
Moments after Collinsworth's comments, Griffin pulled the ball out of running back Alfred Morris' belly and raced around left end for a 10-yard touchdown run that put Washington ahead for good. It's too bad for the Globetrotters, but it looks like this quarterback thing is working out.
