Cows beware: Caps center Jay Beagle might need your help

Capitals center Jay Beagle pondered the question of the day: What is wrong with his team? Washington has the fewest points in the NHL, leaving players baffled about what has gone wrong. There are plenty of places to point the figure – suspect goaltending, poor special teams, defensive breakdowns. The list goes on. And, of course, bad luck plays a part in this, too.

“And it’s not all bounces- but there are a lot of bounces that aren’t going our way,” Beagle said. “I don’t know if we have to sacrifice a cow or something. I don’t know what we have to do.”

At that he cracked the day’s first smile. Remember, this is the same team where veteran Mike Knuble once told DC-101’s Elliot in the Morning show that he would sacrifice a goat before a road trip to get better results. Not sure if that seeped into Beagle’s thinking or not. But when asked if, maybe, he should start with something a little more manageable than a cow, Beagle was ready.

“No! I’m starting big,” Beagle cracked. “There’s no time for starting small.”

He’s got a point. The Caps are 2-7-1 with five points and – believe it or not – just 38 games left in this lockout-shortened season.
