BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Cranbrook Institute of Science is offering visitors opportunities to view its new observatory.

The suburban Detroit museum says the observatory "offers access to the only research-grade telescopes regularly open to the public in the Midwest."

It features three new telescopes, an architectural redesign, upgrades in the viewing space and a new dome.

The observatory will be open during expanded hours for daytime tours Wednesday through Dec. 29, and for nighttime viewing Friday and Dec. 29.

Cranbrook Institute of Science is located on Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills.
