On this day, Feb. 19, 1992, San Francisco pornography mogul Jim Mitchell was convicted of killing his brother and business partner, Artie Mitchell.

The Mitchells were porn pioneers, producing one of the first feature-length sex movies, "Behind the Green Door."

Jim claimed he shot Artie to stop his brother from abusing cocaine and alcohol.

The courts allowed prosecutors to show a virtual reality re-enactment of the murder, the first use of a 3-D computer animation in a criminal trial.

Numerous people spoke on behalf of Mitchell at his sentencing, including former mayors, the sheriff and an ex-police chief.

Mitchell served three years. He died in 2007.

In 2009, Mitchell's son, James, fatally beat his girlfriend with a bat. He was sentenced to 35 years.
