On this day, March 27, in 1991, New Kids on the Block star Donnie Wahlberg was charged with setting a fire at a historic hotel in Louisville, Ky.

Authorities said Wahlberg, the band's 21-year-old "bad boy," was partying with co-Kid Danny Wood and fans early in the morning when Wahlberg dumped vodka on the carpet in a hallway and set it on fire. The blaze was set after someone called to complain about the young ages of the partiers, authorities said.

Fire officials charged Wahlberg with first-degree arson and he faced up to 20 years in prison. The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor criminal mischief and later dismissed after Wahlberg agreed to make public service videos on fire safety, drug abuse and drunken driving.
