Critics see lack of info at Vermont Yankee meeting

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Critics of the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant say the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission has provided insufficient information at a recent public meeting on the plant's 2013 performance.

The watchdog group New England Coalition says the NRC's presentation Wednesday focused too much on plans to dismantle the plant after it shuts down permanently and not enough on its performance last year. The decommissioning is scheduled for later this year.

NRC spokeswoman Diane Screnci (SKREHN'-chee) says the agency tries to focus on what it expects the public wants to know during its annual public review of reactor performance.

But she agrees that at the meeting, the NRC didn't go through all the reported problems or inspection findings at Vermont Yankee last year.
