BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville is to host a lecture on clothing worn by men and women in colonial-era portraits.

The lecture by Tyson Scholar Susan Rather is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The museum says the attire in the paintings reveals information about what the subjects attained in life and about their aspirations — even if it's not always a reliable source of what people actually wore during colonial times.

Rather is to give the talk while wearing a period costume.
