A bicyclist has been struck by a vehicle in Southwest D.C., police say.

The incident happened at about 6:20 a.m. Monday at Sixth Street and Maryland Avenue SW. The cyclist, a man, was taken to a hospital, police spokeswoman Officer Tisha Gant said.

The striking vehicle stayed at the scene. D.C. police's Major Crash Unit is investigating the collision, which means that the crash was serious.
