D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray will announce Friday that the city is establishing a Department of Behavioral Health.

The new agency will blend the efforts of the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Health's Addiction Prevention Recovery Administration, Gray's office said Thursday.

The city has more than 35,000 people receiving care for mental health or substance use conditions, and the District says that integrating the two agencies will ensure patients receive proper treatment.

The District did not immediately announce who will lead the new agency.
