A Southeast D.C. man has been arrested for the burglary of an Alexandria deputy sheriff's Fort Washington home that led to another burglar's death.

Brian Keith Whitaker, 23, faces charges including first-degree burglary, according to court records.

On Tuesday night, the deputy sheriff returned to his home on Rose Marie Drive when he interrupted a burglary in progress that was allegedly being committed by Whitaker and 20-year-old Jon Adgrain Pocknett, of Indian Head. Pocknett confronted the deputy sheriff, who fatally shot him.

Whitaker admitted to detectives that he was involved in the burglary. He was being held Friday on bond, police said.
