A jury found a District man guilty of manslaughter after he killed a man while arguing over a dog.
Ellsworth Colbert, 57, killed Robert L. Wright, 37, in March 2012 in the 3500 block of Pope Street SE after Wright's dog walked on Colbert's property.
Colbert confronted Wright about his dog, and the argument moved to the 3600 block of Highwood Drive. Colbert lunged at Wright and cut him in the neck with a knife. Wright retreated and grabbed a shovel, and Colbert tackled Wright in the street.
Wright died of stab wounds sustained to his back, chest and abdomen.
Colbert was found guilty of manslaughter while armed, assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a dangerous weapon. He faces a maximum of 45 years in prison.
