D.C. Police say they're investigating a suicide that occurred Sunday morning on the John Philip Sousa Bridge near Anacostia.

Police spokesman Paul Metcalf said officers arrived at the scene at approximately 9:30 a.m. and found the victim, already dead, having suffered from a gunshot wound. The gun was recovered by police, he said.

The incident shut down east-bound traffic lanes for about two hours. The lanes have since reopened. No additional information about the victim was immediately available.
