D.C. police officer guilty of killing mistress, baby

A D.C. police office has been found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the deaths of his former mistress and their child.

Richmond Phillips faces a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole in the killing for Wynetta Wright, 20, and Jaylin Wright, 11 months.

Prosecutors said Phillips, 40, fatally shot Wright and then left Jaylin to cook in a car that had its windows rolled up in May 2011.

Police said Phillips shot Wynetta in the head the night before the estranged couple were to go to court for a hearing in a paternity case. He then dragged her body to a nearby wooded area in Oxon Run Stream Valley Park, they said.

Phillips then drove Wright's car with their daughter inside and allegedly parked the car, leaving Jaylin to "bake and cook until she was dead," prosecutors said.
