While flash floods loom as a threat to the District's Bloomingdale neighborhood, the District government says it is still waiting to hear from President Obama about awarding the city federal disaster aid for the June 29 derecho.

"We have not received the funding, but have been in contact with federal authorities and are confident it will come soon," said Pedro Ribeiro, a spokesman for Mayor Vincent Gray.

Gray requested the aid in a July 2 letter to Obama, who approved federal aid in West Virginia and Ohio soon after the powerful system stormed across the United States.
