The District government will honor the Washington Nationals' first playoff berth by lighting its headquarters in red throughout the team's post-season sprint, the city said Friday.
"It's terrific that our Nats have clinched a spot in the playoffs," Mayor Vincent Gray said. "Next up: the division title."
Gray's office said technicians would illuminate the Wilson Building, near the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 14th Street, until the team's playoff run ends. The exhibition will begin Friday night.
The Nationals secured its first spot in the post-season since 1933 on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over Los Angeles. The team enters the weekend's home series against Milwaukee with a 5-and-a-half-game lead over Atlanta in the race for the National League East title.
