It’s January, so it might as well be the MLS preseason. No, seriously, it starts in 10 days.
That’s right, D.C. United players will report on January 17 – the same day as the MLS SuperDraft in Indianapolis – as the team begins its preparation for the 2013 season, which, incredibly, begins on March 2 at Houston. As a reminder, the MLS Combine runs from Jan. 11-15 ahead of the draft.
While there had been discussion of an overseas tour to Indonesia and Qatar, United will instead make two lengthy trips over the next month and half to Florida. First, they’ll train at IMG Academy in Bradenton from Jan. 20-Feb. 1, and then they’ll head to Orlando from Feb. 7-24, participating in the Walt Disney Pro Soccer Classic. Five other MLS sides – Columbus Crew, Montreal Impact, Philadelphia Union, Sporting Kansas City and Toronto FC – will participate along with USL club Orlando City SC and the NASL’s Tampa Bay Rowdies.
