DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say an off-duty officer shot one of two men who died following a confrontation at a North Dallas gas station.
A police statement said 18-year-old Sergio Ramos and another man tried to rob 25-year-old Joseph Roling and shot Roling shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday. Roling tried to drive away but slammed into some parked cars nearby. Ramos and accomplice pursued Roling and were approaching his car when off-duty Officer Jose Gamez spotted the situation.
As Gamez approached, the accomplice sped away, leaving Ramos on foot. Eventually, the police statement said Gamez spoke to Ramos and warned him not to touch the gun protruding from his shorts pocket. Ramos reached for the gun. Games shot him.
Suspect Ramos and victim Roling both died at the scene.
