DC woman accuses police officers of assaulting her

WASHINGTON (AP) — A District of Columbia woman who says she was assaulted by D.C. police officers has sued the city.

Marilu Romero says in the federal lawsuit that multiple officers attacked her during a confrontation early on Nov. 22, 2012 at the Sabor Latino Bar and Grill.

She says the conflict began when officers tried to forcibly remove her sister and a friend from a bar after an argument.

According to the lawsuit, Romero told the officer in Spanish to leave her sister alone and touched his shoulder to get his attention. She says the officer punched her in the face and other officers attacked her as well. She says she suffered numerous injuries.

A spokesman for the D.C. attorney general's office, which represents the city in lawsuits, declined to comment Tuesday.
