House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, held a “ridiculous” press conference today about the fiscal cliff today, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“Speaker Boehner just held a press conference to attack President Obama and his plan to ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share,” the DCCC wrote under “this is ridiculous” in a list-building email today.  “Let’s show Boehner that we’re tired of his threats to hold the middle class hostage to tax breaks for the top 2 percent.”

Boehner accused Obama of refusing to engage in negotiations. “Four days ago we offered a serious proposal based on testimony of President Clinton’s former chief of staff,” Boehner said. “Since then there’s been no counteroffer from the White House. Instead, reports indicate that the president has adopted a deliberate strategy to slow-walk our economy right to the edge of the fiscal cliff.”

The Republicans proposed a deal that would target $2.2 trillion in deficit reduction through a package that included $800 billion in revenue, though without raising tax rates. Obama demands a $1.6 trillion tax increase, raising the rates on the top two percent income-earners, and permanent power to raise the debt-ceiling unilaterally. Here’s the “this is ridiculous” email from DCCC:
