The state of Wisconsin is the story of 2012, as this CBS/New York Times poll released today indicates.
President Obama won the state in 2008 by 14 points in 2008, but is now only at a statistical tie with Mitt Romney at 49-47.
Forty-nine percent of Wisconsin voters disapprove of the way Obama is handling his job, while 46 percent approve.
Forty-three percent view Vice President Joe Biden unfavorably; only 35 percent favorable.
Native son Paul Ryan, Romney’s running mate, enjoys 44/35 favorable numbers and 44 percent (vs 29 percent) say Ryan is qualified to serve as president. Fifty-two percent of Wisconsin voters approve of his job as Congressman.
Meanwhile Gov. Scott Walker, who survived a recall election earlier this year, currently enjoys a 53 percent approval rating with 43 percent disapproving.
Republican senate candidate Tommy Thompson is leading Democrat candidate Tammy Baldwin 50-44 for four-term Democrat, Senator Herb Kohl’s seat.
