House Democrats are pushing a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines in response to the terrible school shooting in Connecticut.

Branding them as “assault magazines,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi insisted on MSNBC yesterday adding that “we’ve got to call them what they are.”

“That means the attachment to a gun, it makes every gun that it’s compatible with – an assault weapon,” she explained

Pelosi insisted that there was no reason for civilians to own high capacity gun magazines.

“Why is it that somebody needs a magazine with 20 shots in it?” she asked on the House floor on Monday. “Why is it? I am not even asking that rhetorically. I am asking it of those advocating we shouldn’t make this change.”

Sam Stein reported yesterday that Rep. Carolyn McCarthy D-N.Y. and Rep. Diana DeGette D-Colo. backing a bill banning magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition. DeGette said that she now has approximately 125 co-sponsors on the bill.

“You aren’t even allowed to have that on a hunting gun,” Pelosi said on MSNBC yesterday. “In California, anyway, you can have three shots. And here in a kindergarten you can have endless shots.”
