RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democrats in and around Richmond and Petersburg are nominating Del. Rosalyn Dance to replace former state Sen. Henry Marsh.
Party members voted Saturday at several polling locations throughout the 16th Senate District.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports (http://bit.ly/1sKlbDV) that Dance beat Del. Delores McQuinn, former Richmond Mayor Rudy McCollum and businesswoman Gerry Rawlinson for the nomination. Dance, a former Petersburg mayor, received about 45 percent of the vote.
The 80-year-old Marsh worked as a civil rights lawyer and was Richmond's first black mayor before serving more than two decades in the state Senate. He was recently appointed by Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe to a $122,000-a-year position on the Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
