Grassroots liberals got a reality check today from the campaign arm of the House Democrats, which pointed out that Mitt Romney leads President Obama in “two major polls.”

“Think whatever you want about Mitt Romney,” Brynne Craig, the field director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, wrote in a fundraising plea. “But right now he’s leading President Obama in two major polls (Reuters/Ipsos and ABC News/Washington Post).

Romney got a six-point bounce out of the convention, according to Reuters, which showed him now leadin the president 44-42 on the strength of the Republican convention. “I’d say the convention is going very well for him,” said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark.

ABC News and The Washington Post released a poll earlier this week showing Romney with a 47-46 lead over the president.

“We’re 67 days away from a President Romney backed by an extreme Republican Majority in Congress if we don’t do something about it,” Craig added, before asking for donations of $3 or more.

Here’s the DCCC email:

Friend –

Think whatever you want about Mitt Romney.

But right now he’s leading President Obama in two major polls (Reuters/Ipsos and ABC News/Washington Post).

We’re 67 days away from a President Romney backed by an extreme Republican Majority in Congress if we don’t do something about it. Take a moment, think about what that would mean for our country. Then help us stop it from happening.

The biggest fundraising deadline we’ve faced hits at midnight.

Chip in $3 or more to win a Democratic majority for President Obama and we’ll triple-match your gift >>

Thanks for standing with us,

Brynne
