COLUMBUS, Ohio (Legal Newsline) – Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine announced a lawsuit on Wednesday against a Grove City-based basement remodeling business and its owner for allegedly violating Ohio’s consumer laws.
Tony Logan is the operator of Quality 1st Home Improvements, a business that offers home improvement services like basement remodeling. Quality 1st Home Improvements goes door-to-door to solicit consumers at their homes.
Five consumers filed complaints with DeWine’s office or the Better Business Bureau against Quality 1st Home Improvement. Two of the consumers allegedly paid the business upfront to finish their basement, but the work was never completed. The consumers allegedly lost more than $16,800 combined.
“This contractor repeatedly failed to make good on his promises to consumers,” DeWine said. “The purpose of the lawsuit is to obtain restitution for the affected consumers and to bring the business into compliance with Ohio’s consumer laws.”
DeWine’s lawsuit, which was filed in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, alleged that Quality 1st Home Improvements and Logan violated Ohio’s Home Solicitation Sales Act and Consumer Sales Practices Act. The suit alleges the business failed to deliver, performed shoddy work and failed to give consumers notice of their three-day right to cancel.
Complaints about household improvement and household goods consistently rank among the top five consumer complaints filed with DeWine’s Consumer Protection Section.
