The District offered up a revised bike lane proposal for a stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue on Tuesday, moving the lanes from the side of the road into the median.

The plan is intended to keep vehicles from veering into the bike lanes while easing traffic for cars.

It was revised after D.C. officials abruptly pulled back from the launch date before last month’s Bike to Work Day, fearing the lanes weren’t as safe as initially designed. The lanes also had become the center of a kerfluffle between cars and bikes when auto club AAA Mid-Atlantic criticized both the plan and the process for adding the lanes.

The new lanes are slated to be finished by the middle of the month, according to the District Department of Transportation.

For those looking for the nitty gritty, here’s a full PDF of the plan.
