DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa's largest farmers market is opening its 38th season in downtown Des Moines despite cold weather.
The Downtown Farmers' Market will open at 7 a.m. Saturday along nine city blocks, centered on Court Street. It will continue until 1 p.m. on the first day, then return to the traditional 7 a.m. to noon schedule on following Saturdays.
Market director Kelly Foss says because of cold weather, some vendors won't have as much produce as usual, but she notes that some growers have succeeded in growing items in high tunnels and greenhouses.
More than 150 vendors are expected to participate.
