A 28-year-old McLean woman has been charged with drunk driving and felony hit and run after police said she ran over a bicyclist on a bike trail with her car.

A 65-year-old biker was left with serious injuries after he was hit on the W&OD Trail around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Fairfax County police. A 2005 Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed when it hit him, without slowing, from behind on the trail, police said.

Vienna police received numerous calls from others who were almost struck by the driver and jumped to safety.

The Toyota continued down the trail into the town of Vienna, where a police officer spotted it en route to Tysons Corner. Mehak Chopra was pulled over and arrested.

Investigators believe she drove about five miles, beginning in Reston, along the former Washington and Old Dominion Trail railroad tracks, which had been turned into a park trail intended for cyclists and walkers.
