A 27-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Annandale, police said.

About 2:15 a.m. Thursday, officers were called to the crash. Fairfax County police said that Maximiliano Ponce-Cruz was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound on Backlick Road when he failed to negotiate a curve prior to reaching John Marr Drive. The Chevrolet crossed the double-yellow line, left the road and struck a pole.

Ponce-Cruz, of Annandale, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, police said.

Authorities are considering both speed and alcohol to be factors in the crash, and a preliminary investigation suggests that Ponce-Cruz was not wearing his seat belt.
