QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Ecuador's President Rafael Correa says he's backing a constitutional amendment that would allow him to run for re-election indefinitely.

The leftist leader's party controls congress so passage is almost assured.

The measure would apply to all elected offices, but attention is on Correa, who took office in 2007 and whose term ends in 2017. In an address to lawmakers on Saturday, Correa did not say if he would take advantage of the change, but dozens of backers shouted for "re-election."
