CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian opposition leader is calling for a boycott of upcoming parliamentary elections, a day after he said the vote will inflame the country's political tensions.

Mohamed ElBaradei, who leads the main opposition National Salvation Front, wrote on Twitter Saturday that he is calling for the boycott "to expose sham democracy," as he said he did in a similar call in 2010 under then-president Hosni Mubarak. ElBaradei says he urges the boycott of the vote called by Islamist President Mohammed Morsi because he "will not be part of an act of deception."

Morsi called for elections to begin in April. His Muslim Brotherhood group says they are an important step in building Egypt's future.

The Brotherhood has won elections since Mubarak's ouster two years ago, while liberal parties have trailed significantly behind.
