An 81-year-old pick-up truck driver died after a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 395 in Fairfax County, police said.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 a.m. Wednesday in the northbound lanes of I-395 just south of the exit for Route 236.

A 2006 Subaru Legacy ran off the left side of the highway, struck a guardrail, moved back into the roadway and struck a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup truck. The truck then ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail and overturned, Virginia State Police said.

The pick-up truck's driver -- Ernest Campbell, of Springfield -- was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Subaru's driver, 22-year-old Edward Flores-Curiel, of Nevada, was charged with reckless driving, police said. Neither he nor his passenger were injured.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash but say that alcohol was not a factor.
