Prize-winning poet joining Transylvania faculty

A Danville native who is a prize-winning poet is returning to Kentucky where he will be an English professor at Transylvania University.

Maurice Manning has published four books of poetry, won the 2000 Yale Series of Younger Poets for one of them and was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry.

Manning has been an English professor and associate director of the creative writing program at Indiana University in Bloomington and also teaches in the M.F.A. Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported (http://bit.ly/wlMfwh ).

He will join the Transylvania faculty full time in September. Until then he will organize readings on campus during the winter and May terms.
