For the first time since the Democratic National Convention in early September, the Washington Post tracking poll has Republican Mitt Romney beating President Obama.

While Romney leads by just one point, the tracking poll reveals a gradual but sustained rise in Romney's ratings since the debates began. Before that, he was on a downward trajectory and it appeared that Obama would win going away.

But the debates changed all that, somewhat radically in the poll, and in the last two days the two switched positions.

The Post didn't mention Romney's lead in their poll until the eighth paragraph of Wednesday's campaign story when they wrote: "The new Washington Post-ABC News national tracking poll released Tuesday has 49 percent of likely voters supporting Romney, and 48 percent Obama."
