A Hyattsville man was arrested after police said he choked his ex-girlfriend and stole her Chihuahua.
Arlington County Police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck said Jonathan Jimenez, 24, approached the woman shortly after midnight Tuesday as she was walking the dog in the 2400 block of 11th Street N.
Jimenez and the woman, who broke up several months earlier, got into an argument, and Jimenez put his hands around the woman's neck police said. She was able to break free, and Jimenez fled in a vehicle with the dog.
As police arrived on the scene, Jimenez called the woman, who asked him to come back.
When he returned, police were there to arrest him. He was charged with strangulation, attempted malicious wounding, grand larceny and domestic assault.
The dog-napping comes one week after a Manassas man was charged with abducting his former girlfriend's Scottish terriers. Police said Khanh Hoang Hong, 44, tied the male and female dogs with duct tape around their legs and mouths. The male terrier escaped and was returned to its owner, but the female dog was found dead in a trash bag on the side of the road.
