Former Gov. Ed Rendell, D-Pa., found a silver lining in the shooting in Newtown, Conn., by observing that the tragedy has strengthened the gun control movement.
“The good thing about Newtown is [that] it was so horrific that I think it galvanized Americans to a point where the intensity on our side is going to match the intensity on their side,” Rendell, one of Hillary Clinton’s most loyal allies, said on MSNBC today.
Rendell has pushed for gun control apropos of shootings before, although he apologized at the time. “What the Congress ought to do, again, I apologize for talking about this in the wake of all this, but it is important,” Rendell said after the Colorado shooting. “The Congress should reinstate the assault weapons ban. Number one, no citizen should be allowed to have an assault rifle. That’s clear. There’s no reason. No hunter needs it, no citizen needs it to protect their home.”
Townhall’s Katie Pavlich observes that “If you needed any more evidence to prove the Left is using the Newtown shooting not to find solutions that will lead to safer schools but instead to push for a long-desired gun control agenda, this is it.”
Rendell’s comment comes the day after Brietbart’s Ben Shapiro debated gun control with CNN’s Piers Morgan. “What you tend to do is you tend to demonize people who differ from you politically by standing on the graves of the children of Sandy Hook saying they don’t seem to care enough about the dead kids,” Shapiro said.
