Jared Kushner unsure whether Palestinians are capable of self-government

White House senior adviser Jared Kushner said he was not certain whether the Palestinians were able to govern themselves without the help of Israel.

“That’s a very good question,” the President Trump’s son-in-law said when asked in an “Axios on HBO” interview whether the Palestinians were capable of ruling themselves without Israeli interference. “The hope is, is that over time, they can become capable of governing.”

Kushner has taken the lead in the White House on crafting a peace plan between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

Kushner added that it was a “high bar” to expect the Palestinians to be free from Israeli military interference, saying Palestinians “don’t have a proper government structure and proper security.”

Kushner said Palestinians will need a fair judiciary, freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and religious tolerance before the territory becomes “investable.”

Kushner’s wide-ranging interview on HBO included him saying Democrats’ criticism that Trump is a racist is a “disservice” to people who experience “real racism.”
