When you signed up for Facebook, did you write something witty to describe your political affiliations?

Well check again, because not only did Facebook replace your profile’s email address with a Facebook email, it wiped out any political affiliations that didn’t conform to the usual liberal/conservative/Republican/Democrat categories.

For example a buddy of mine (a man of complex political beliefs) described his affiliations as the “Tao of Marc.” When he logged in yesterday to fix his email, he noticed that it was wiped clean. According to him, he was able to replace it without any trouble.

This isn't an isolated incident.

“They also wiped out people’s political view if it was something other than liberal/conservative/democrat/republican/etc. Mine said ‘I believe in independent thought’ and it’s gone now,” posted a commenter on the Lifehacker post, which revealed the email switch.

“Mine used to be’ Sanity and Reason’ and it’s gone now too,” added another commenter. “They are getting weirdly sanitize(d).”

Another commenter posted, “My ‘political views’ had disappeared, too, but I was easily able to reset them to ‘Dangerous.’

Have you discovered your political affiliation on Facebook wiped clean? Let us know in the comments.
