Last night Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell said, “In states with Republican governors, the average unemployment rate is a full point lower than in states with Democratic governors.”

This is not entirely accurate.

In fact, according to the most recent Department of Labor data, states with Republican governors have an unemployment rate (7.6 percent) that is 1.2 points lower than states with a Democratic governor (8.8 percent).
