SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Authorities say a worker at a suburban Detroit auto parts factory was killed when a 10,000-pound industrial die fell on him.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens (http://bit.ly/YIY62A ) says the accident happened about 1 p.m. Thursday at the MollerTech plant in Shelby Township. It's about 20 miles north of Detroit.

Fire Chief James Swinkowski says the 42-year-old employee was working on crane when the die fell on him. The victim's name wasn't immediately released.

Company official Ingo Pridoehl says the plant employs about 140 workers. He says they were sent home for the day and it's uncertain when the plant will reopen.

The plant is owned by MollerGroup GmbH, based in Bielefeld, Germany. It makes plastic parts for auto interiors.
